SUNDAY – GETTING STARTED IN HEAT PRINTING
An explanation of how simple it is to get started in transfer printing, and how you can start making money instantly!! An overview of the products and equipment needed, including advice on what to look for and how to ensure that you are getting value for money. The seminar features demonstrations of products and tips on how to ensure perfect results every time. It will also feature advice on how your business can grow with you and to make sure that the purchases that you make will stand the test of time. It will also touch on the importance of workflow and organisation, as when you are potentially dealing with large volumes, every second really does count.
MONDAY – THE VERSATILITY OF HEAT TRANSFER PRINTING
A Heat press allows the user to decorate garments from dawn until dusk. At the same time, it also opens a lot of other doors and the opportunities are limitless. This seminar explores the many other revenue streams that are available through a heat press, and many ideas that are not obvious, but are profitable. There will also be advice on how you can achieve the result that your customer is after, no matter how complicated the design. You are not limited by the cutter or equipment that you possess, there is always a way to get the finished product to exact specification.
TUESDAY – HOW TO HEAT APPLY TO DIFFICULT SUBSTRATES AND HOW TO ACHIEVE DIFFERENT FINISHES
If only every job was as simple as a plain cotton t-shirt. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work like that!! To make sure that you are getting the optimum use out of your heat press, this seminar will feature a range of tips and ideas to ensure that you are able to get the most from your heat press. It will look at “problem” materials such as coated nylons and demonstrate how to make sure that the transfers adhere perfectly every time. In addition, it will examine the different methods available to achieve different finishes with transfers and vinyl, whether it is gloss, matt or multi-layered.

I would like to introduce my next guest blogger, Josh Ellsworth. Many of you may already be familiar with Josh Ellsworth, since he is a well known figure in the apparel decoration world. Known throughout the industry as a CAD-CUT (R) materials specialist, with over 1,000 forum postings on T-Shirt Forums, author of Heat Press Yourself blog and star and producer of many heat printing related YouTube videos, Josh is now the general Manager for Stahls’ CAD-CUT(R) Direct. He will continue developing how-to videos, writing articles for industry trade publications and much more. Here are some of his predictions:

Sales & Marketing
- Decorated Apparel Businesses with websites will have to render a preview of decorating options to get more orders. Larger decorators will continue to leverage t-shirt generators, while mid to small size decorators can compete by utilizing videos on product pages.
- Savvy business owners will start a Facebook page and use tools such as photos, slideshows and video to mass merchandise to customers.
- Some decorators will jump into social media marketing and become engulfed to the point where it is negatively impacting their productivity. Smart decorators will select one or two outlets and maximize them.
Trends
- Some of the unemployed workforce in the UK, Europe and the US market will start their own business and need to order decorated apparel. Given that not many small companies start with over 40 employees – screen printing will start to become passé for decorating corporate apparel. Embroidery continues to thrive with heat transfer technologies growing much stronger.
- Performance apparel continues to grow and pose new challenges. More manufacturers will source or make lots of fabrics abroad making dye migration challenges the norm. Decorators who can combat these issues will be in demand.
- With the emergence of full color options across all imaging platforms, some schools will begin to understand that they do not have to be limited to a 1-3 color logo/mascot. Logo redesigns will begin to take place across the country and the power of digital printing will be harnessed for imaging on signage, apparel, books and promotional products.
- Decoration of footwear, braces, gloves and protective equipment will catch on. Decorators who can accommodate these items will make great profit margins and differentiate from competitors, opening doors to new opportunities.
- Screen Printers will reinvent themselves to be very inclusive of customization technologies. This trend has started to happen with the buzz of DTG, however wise printers will realize there are other customization technologies such as Cad-Cut(R) and Print and Cut that are better suited for certain jobs.
- The availability of vinyl cutters and start up heat transfer businesses in the under 1000 price point will create a BOOM in the availability of customization technologies. Now when a team, business or individual needs decoration they find customization to be available locally and to be faster than screen printing.

Throughout 2009, Target Transfers have kept up a steady stream of new, innovative products and services for the benefit of all those involved in the garment decorating industry.
As part of their service to customers, Target have in 2009 provided FREE of charge on their website for customers to use, Artwork Templates, Print & Cut patterns, Marketing Tips, and even an Excel Calculator to ensure that costing and pricing for their jobs can be accurately produced. In the summer Target also introduced a new scheme whereby customers could hire heat presses or vinyl cutters to help those overcome some of the financial difficulties the current economic climate has created! These services are still available and can be explored in detail by visiting the web site. To benefit from these FREE tools simply register and login!
Target also commenced offering a “business in a box” for interested parties by putting together a series of package deals which provided all that is needed to start up a new business – from the small budget start up to the full professional kit, everyone is catered for. And with special prices for the start up packages there has been no shortage of takers.
It is also now possible to order blank garments, and other imprintable items, so that customers can purchase all their imprinting needs from one source and make savings as a result. Alternatively Target is now also able to supply their custom print customers with their requirements from concept to completion.
There were lots of new products introduced. Amongst the most popular has been the new Hotronix® Maxx Heat Press range. One of the most cost effective presses, it is available in 4 platen sizes, and features digital time and temperature read outs. Fully CE compliant, customers have been quick to spot a great press at very competitive prices. It has become the best selling machine in 2009 from the world renowned Hotronix® range of presses.
Target also introduced the brilliant little Craft Robo vinyl cutter and launched a range of textile vinyl sheets in A4 size specifically to cater to the Craft Robo users. Target also carries the rest of the Graphtec range of cutters. The sensational Mimaki Print & Cut machines were also introduced early in the year and have been a big hit, and with the wide range of Print & Cut materials available from Target, new users have found great success, despite all the gloomy economic news in the national press. In fact it has been Target’s experience that virtually all their customers have experienced an increase in activity throughout 2009, showing what a great shape the imprinted market is in!
Looking ahead to 2010 there are more exciting products and services being planned. New textile vinyls, print and cut materials, and developments in the various machine markets are close to completion!
